We are the Global Initiative for Economic,
Social and Cultural Rights

We believe human rights are universal, indivisible, interdependent and inalienable, and that they are shaped by law and social relations.

How we work

We work with partners to tackling the endemic problems of social and economic injustice through a human rights lens.

Our Focus Areas

We advocate for the importance and universality of ESC rights through quality research and compelling legal arguments that strengthen the ESC rights framework.

With partners GI-ESCR researches and responds to the negative effects of privatisation in social services through a human rights lens.

In international spaces GI-ESCR raises the visibility and understanding of the impacts of climate change on economic, social and cultural rights.

We research the risks and opportunities that the transition to renewable energy presentes for womenโ€™s rights and we advocate for States to advance a gender-just transition to low carbon societies.

GI-ESCR advances standards and the implementation of womenโ€™s economic, social and cultural rights.
